The Melchiorre Group is a collection of agricultural businesses specializing in the cultivation and production of high-quality chestnuts. The entire production chain is certified according to leading international standards—BIO, BRC, GlobalG.A.P., HACCP, and GRASP—to ensure safety, sustainability, and traceability.
The company’s origins date back to the early 1940s, when the Melchiorre family launched its business in the chestnut sector, distinguishing itself from the outset by its ability to export to demanding markets such as the United States and Canada. Building on these solid foundations, the Melchiorre Agricultural Cooperative was established with the goal of becoming a direct producer through the development of its own chestnut groves, marking a significant strategic evolution.
Respect for nature is the guiding principle behind every business decision. For this reason, the cooperative constantly invests in modern facilities and advanced technologies, adopting sustainable practices at every stage: from cultivation to production, from processing to marketing.
Today, the usable agricultural area (UAA) dedicated to chestnut groves spans approximately 200 hectares, all located in the picturesque region of Irpinia—a territory with ideal growing conditions that endow the chestnuts with exceptional qualities.
Innovation
A focus on quality and continuous improvement has led the Melchiorre Group to introduce cutting-edge technological solutions. Among these is the adoption of an innovative quality control system based on 3D X-ray technology.
This advanced computed tomography system allows for the non-invasive analysis of every single chestnut, automatically identifying and rejecting defective nuts—including those that appear intact but are compromised on the inside. The result is an extremely high and consistent quality standard.
The growing challenges posed by pests in the chestnut industry and the desire to offer an increasingly select product have made a decisive technological leap necessary. Although already used successfully in other production sectors, this technology represents an absolute first in the world of fresh chestnuts.
